This morning I photographed three Tsukuba University students (pictured), who told me, “We’re staying here to practice for 4 days and 3 nights starting today. We were worried that the (officially reported) base of 60cm might not be enough, but there’s a good amount of snow on the slopes. We’ll keep training hard for the competition!” After some sunlight graced the slopes in the early morning, snow began to fall in earnest around 8:00 a.m.

The broad Paradise Slope (pictured) was immaculately groomed in typical Hakuba Sanosaka fashion, and the wet snow surface with a powdery feel was very easy to ski! Below that, the Paradise Downhill featured groomed wet snow that was well packed. Meanwhile, the New Paradise course was groomed widely, even though only the south side of the slope was groomed during our last report.

The Carving Slope (pictured) had a groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel, just like Paradise. As the name implies, the super smooth slope is a must for advanced skiers who love to carve. I ran into Mr. Sato of Monster Cliff (pictured), who told me, “The conditions are great for skiing today.”

The groomed Lake Down Course also had wet snow with a powdery feel, and I enjoyed the the feeling of skiing toward Lake Aoki. In other news, the Rabbits Cup Opening Event will be held on 1/13 (Sat.) and 1/14 (Sun.). Food trucks, craft beer beer trucks, and sauna trucks will be set up around Lakeview Hakuba, and DJs will liven up the venue with music during the event.
