Cosplayers descended on Tsugaike over the weekend. The weather today, 1/14 (Sun.), was clear and windless; a stark contrast from yesterday’s heavy snow. Today the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope was playing host to an event hosted by the Japan Itaita Board Association (JIBA), and a member of the event staff told me, “Even with the snow storm yesterday we had about 100 people show up, so I expect about 300 people to gather today with this excellent weather.”

I photographed a cosplayer participating in the event (pictured), who told me they were a fan of Snownavi, and added jokingly, “I charge a hefty modeling fee for photos. I’m cosplaying as the popular VTuber Juufuutei Raden.” The broad, groomed Kane-no-naru-oka Slope had a pleasantly soft powder snow surface that was very easy to ski.

By the way, the Kids Park is now open on Kane-naru on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays through 3/31. (10:00 a.m.〜, ¥500, one accompanying parent free) The 50-meter moving walkway makes it easy to get to the top of the slope, and today the area featured a soft groomed surface that wouldn’t hurt you even if you fell down.

Let’s go back to the start of the morning. The Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) was groomed with a moderately soft powder snow surface that made it fun and easy to ride fast from top to bottom. I also enjoyed the fluffy 30 to 40 cm of fresh powder on the ungroomed section of slope along the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad.
