After heavy snowfalls on 1/13 (Sat.), 1/15 (Mon.), and 1/16 (Tue.), today was the perfect day for skiing! The official snow depth is now 95cm, representing a significant increase from our previous report. A lift worker told me, “The areas that had insufficient snow are now completely covered, so you can ski without any worries.”

I ran into the principal of the Kamoshika Snowboard School, who mentioned they’d be taking advantage of the excellent conditions on the groomed slopes and practicing smooth, linked carving turns. The 1-kilometer run from Paradise (pictured) to Castor Plaza had a moderately firm, groomed powder surface that was very easy to ski.
[Paradise Slope]
On the New Paradise Slope, the area to skier’s right of the 5th Pair skiers’ right was groomed, while the other side remained ungroomed. On the Lake Down Course (pictured), most people could be seen taking pictures of Lake Aoki with their smartphones or other devices before skiing down. I was able to ski fast with wide, sweeping turns on the moderately firm, groomed powder base that was similarly good to Paradise.

Going back to earlier in the day, I was able to snap a rather interesting photo of a snowplow at work in the haze (pictured) along the Azumino Art Line first thing in the morning. In other news, the Hakuba Sanosaka Tourism Association Customer Appreciation Festival will be held on 1/20 (Sat.) and 1/21 (Sun.), with half-price meals and rentals, free lessons at the Hakuba Sanosaka Ski School and Kamoshika Snowboard School, and a fireworks display on 1/20 (Sat.) at 19:00!
