Tsugaike REPORT

2024.01.18202cm / Snowy

It was a windless morning, with graupel (snow pellets) falling around the gondola base station at the foot of the mountain, and light snow falling across the upper portion of the ski resort. I spoke briefly with a snowboarder from Nagano City (pictured, second from right), who told me, “I love your site! Today I’m snowboarding with and teaching my friends from Shanghai. They’re staying in Hakuba for 10 days.”

I enjoyed some nice turns on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) and the area along the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift (first photo), where there was about 2 cm of fresh snow on top of a moderately soft, groomed powder base that my skis slid well across. This morning the Tsuga-no-mori Slope was particularly empty, so I had fun with some large, sweeping turns.

The Gotemba course also had about 2 cm of fresh snow on top of a moderately soft, groomed powder surface with interesting wave-like undulations. As I skied further down the Han-no-ki Slope, the groomed surface conditions transitioned to moderately firm powder in the middle of the course and moderately packed wet snow at the end of the run.

I came across a large international group composed of eight people from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Chile, and the U.K. (pictured) who said they were fans of Snownavi. One of them added, “Today I am learning to snowboard with my instructor from England (pictured, third from left).” TG PARKS is now open on the Sawa Course (pictured) and the One Course, both of which branch off from Han-no-ki. The current elements include a wave, up rail, a double down rail, 3 single rails, a curved rail, 2 knolls, a wall to rail, a round rail, 4m tables x 2, 3m tables x 3, and 2 boxes.
