At the foot of the mountain, the rain that fell throughout the day yesterday and into the early morning had stopped, and it seemed that slightly cooler temperatures had returned. First thing this morning, light snow was falling at Usagidaira where I spoke with a Happo regular who told me, “The mountain is blanketed in fog, as expected.” The Panorama Course (pictured) had a hard packed groomed wet snow surface covered in a thin layer of fresh snow.

The opening of the Alpen Quad was delayed due to frozen wires and other parts. The fog was particularly thick across the upper half of the ski resort, so I headed to the Sakka Slope (pictured) via the familiar and easy to navigate Panorama Forest Course, which also had a hard, groomed wet snow base. The north side of the Sakka Slope (pictured) was ungroomed, but with an almost-flat, firm wet snow surface.

I took the Skyline 2 Pair (pictured) back up from the Sakka Kitaone Quad, and found myself back in the thick of the fog…. The central part of the Skyline course was groomed with hard wet snow. The ungroomed portion of Skyline had a moderately firm uneven base marked with bumps and tracks.

However, as I climbed up to Kurobishi, I was able to see blue skies peeking out from above the clouds. Visibility was good along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), where the firm, groomed wet snow was in good condition. The Alpen Quad started operating at around 9:30 a.m.
