Snow started falling around 7:30 a.m. this morning. I headed up to the top of the resort via the Second Rapid Pair, Third Rapid Pair, and Fourth Pair in succession. The uncrowded Fourth Slope (pictured) had a groomed, soft powder snow surface topped with about 1cm of fresh snow that stayed in good condition for a long time.

The SAVREQ service is now available on the Fourth Slope as of 12/31 (Sun.). By scanning the QR code on the signboard at the starting point (pictured, right) with your smartphone, cameras installed along the slope will film video of you with a 4K high-resolution camera equipped with AI-enhanced auto-tracking. The resulting videos can then be reviewed and purchased using your own smartphone.

Conditions were excellent on the Third Slope (pictured), Expert Course, and First Slope, which each had moderately firm, groomed powder snow bases. Although the gondola was delayed due to a mechanical issue, the Downhill and Hillside courses could still be skied, and the shuttle bus’ Okushiga Kogen Line was available to take skiers from the base of the ski area to other areas. The gondola eventually started running at 12:30 p.m.

I spoke with a local skier from Yamanouchi Town (pictured, right), who told me, “I love your site! The recent heavy snowfall has improved the conditions across both the groomed trails and the backcountry. I just had a fun run through the woods!” l aso had a conversation with a staff member of JAPAN-DEMOSKI.com (pictured, center) who told me that they were offering online lessons using SAVREQ.”
