Despite the unfortunate rain, the recurring “Treasure Hunt” event was held in the Kids Park as scheduled at 10:30 a.m. The event is open to children in elementary school and younger, and the fee to participate is ¥500. (*1-DAY PASSPORT holders or snow rafting customers can participate for free). Things kicked off with a brief orientation conducted by a staff member who gave tips on how to find the hidden treasure (i.e., colored balls) and other details about the prizes.

The colored balls were buried in the snow on the south side of the snow rafting area in a spaced marked off by orange poles. The children who started looking for the colored balls near the front of the area gradually expanded their search further and wider. Since the colored balls were buried shallowly, their colors were faintly visible on the snow surface.

The treasure hunt took about 10 minutes to complete, with the first prize being found by a 4-year-old girl from Tokyo. She held up a big boxed toy with a smile, and exclaimed that she was happy. Other children received a variety of toys, including an air yo-yo, a spin puzzle, key chains, and more. The next event will be held on 2/11 (Sun.) at 10:30. (*Reception starts at 10:00.)

The 4th and 5th Pair Lifts were closed today due to avalanche danger. My skis ran well on the Ipponmatsu Course and Ikenota Slope first thing this morning, with both having groomed, moderately soft wet snow surfaces. The Rabbit Course was ungroomed up top and in the middle, but groomed at the end. I spoke with a snowboarder from Gunma (pictured, right) at Cortina for a day-trip, who told me he had seen the Snownavi site before. He added, “I haven’t been to Cortina in 3 years, and today is my first day on the slopes this season… in the rain.”
