Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2024.01.23175cm / Overcast

The calm morning weather is supposed to last until the afternoon today, before a winter pressure pattern strengthens over the area. With the arrival of this weather system, the forecast is calling for near-constant snow beginning this evening and lastsing through 1/25 (Thurs.). This morning, ski lessons for children attending the local Otari Elementary School were held at Hakunori, and children could be seen skiing energetically behind their instructors on the Wakaguri Forest Course (pictured) and Wakaguri Central Slope.

I spoke with a snowboarder from Chiba Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! The information on snow quality and more is really helpful. I board all over the Hakuba Valley. I am looking forward to the snow tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the new snow tomorrow.” I enjoyed some runs on the Rabbit Course in the morning when the crowds were sparse.

The Rabbit Course, Wakaguri Central Slope, and Wakaguri Forest Course all had hard, groomed wet snow surfaces. In other news, the first round of the “Chanmero Freeride” event, for skiers and snowboarders from kids adults, will be held on the Expert Course on 1/28 (Sun.).

I had a chat with a couple from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) that said they were fans of Snownavi, and added, “ We have been in Hakuba since Sunday and last weekend we went to Hakuba Goryu to support the Shizuoka Prefecture Technical Skiing Technical Competition. We’ve been coming to Hakunori for over 30 years now.” The ‘Chibikko Hiroba’ kids area in front of the hotel was groomed just like the the other slopes, and in perfect condition for sledding. (Free admission and free access to sleds, tubes, and other play equipment).
