Visitors to Madarao Kogen usually begin their mornings in one of three ways: stepping onto the Paradise Slope from the Madarao Kogen Hotel, entering Utopia from the No. 7 Parking Lot (pictured, far right, free of charge), or accessing the resort near Heidi from the No. 8 Parking Lot (free of charge). Day use of the Madarao Kogen Hotel parking lot costs JPY1,000 for regular vehicles. Incidentally, the Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort is visible in the back of the photo.

I entered the slopes of Madarao from the No. 7 Parking Lot, and took the 8:30 Super Quad over to Crystal via Traverse. I caught up with a family (pictured) whose child exclaimed how much fun he was having, before a parent added, “The snow is soft and easy to ski. Us adults are going to have fun on our own today while our boy is taking ski lessons.”

I could hear cheers and excited shouting coming from several tree areas such as NINJA (pictured) and SAWA. Not long after I spoke with two people from Nagano City that told me, “We love your site! The terrain on SAWA3 was fun, and there was deep snow in places.” At SAWA2, I enjoyed skiing the moderately firm, undulating powder snow base between trees.

Thanks to the good quality snow that fell from 1/24 (Wed.) to 1/26 (Fri.) 1/26, the entire ski resort was in perfect powder snow conditions today. The groomed runs of Paradise, the lower portion of Giant (pictured), Sky View, and Sky Love had moderately firm bases, while the middle (pictured) and end of Crystal had a firmer groomed surface. There were no lines at lifts 11, 12, 13, and 15, in contrast to the 3 to 5-minute waits for the Super Quad and No. 2 Quad.
