Kurumayama Kogen Ski Resort is located on the northeast slope of 1,925-meter-tall Kurumayama, the highest peak in the Kirigamine range, and one of the “100 Famous Mountains of Japan.” It is also the largest ski resort along the Venus Line, and is blessed with broad terrain, open views, and a high percentage of clear skies. At Adventure Land (pictured, foreground), I overhead a child who was sledding saying excitedly, “Oh my gosh, this is so much fun! I wanna do it 100 more times!” I then spoke with the mother from Kanagawa who told me they come every year because her children love the kids park.

Although the official snow depth was only 40 cm, there were no bushes on the groomed Family (pictured), Panorama, Venus, and Slalom courses, or at Adventure Land, in part because of the use of artificial snowfall machines. The Family Course was groomed with moderately firm powder snow that squeaked when you stepped on it. Incidentally, the SKY LINER lift starts running at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

Beginner skiers who are able to control their speed can enjoy the view while skiing down from the top of the resort. The Panorama Course (pictured) was groomed with a “powdery” wet snow surface that was harder than the Family Course. From the summit, there were scenic 360° views of the surrounding plains and mountains, including Mt. Fuji.

I had a conversation with a skier from Nagano’s Suwa City (pictured), who told me, “I love your site, and I’m really happy that Snownavi came to Kurumayama to do a report. The groomed snow on the Family Course first thing in the morning was especially nice.” The temperature was -11℃ at 7:00 a.m., and only rose moderately during the day.
