Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2024.01.31215cm / Overcast

The number of international guests skiing at Hakunori is increasing year by year. I spoke with a guide (pictured, left) from the backcountry guiding company Endekashi who greeted me saying he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “Today I’m heading to the backcountry with a guest from Switzerland.” The Swiss client (pictured, right) said he was staying in the Hakuba area for four days, and that afterward he would do some sightseeing in Kyoto and Tokyo before heading to Hokkaido.

Not long after I crossed paths with two people from the U.S. (pictured) who told me, “We are staying at Tsugaike and decided to try Hakunori as well since it is so close.” The sun was shining on this cloudy morning, and the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) and Hakunori Family Course (first photo) were groomed with moderately firm wet snow surfaces that were easy to ski.

The Rabbit Course also had a moderately firm, groomed wet snow base that began to loosen up around 9:30. Even still, conditions were good and the wide-groomed slopes proved extremely comfortable, and I found myself wanting to use the No. 5 High-Speed Pair to lap Rabbit to Wakaguri Central.

I spoke with a snowboarder from Suwa City (pictured) who told me they check the Snownavi site occasionally. They continued, “I usually go to Tsugaike, but I came to Hakunori for the first time this season thinking it would be less crowded. The groomers are very easy to ski!” The Satomi Central Slope (pictured) was also in great groomed condition with a firm wet snow surface.
