REPORT

It was a calm, clear, and mild morning at Kurohime Kogen. As was the case during my previous visit, ski lesson were ongoing in the KUROHIME FAMILY PARK and in the area near the moving walkway in front of the Cosmo Plaza (pictured), which was bustling with numerous elementary school students. Because of the warm sunshine, I overheard some children saying, “I want to wear short sleeves!” (Trust me kids, it’s still too cold for short sleeves.)

Along the No. 1 Quad, Leo (pictured), Blackbird, and Monkey were groomed with “powdery” wet snow and flat finishes. As the surface layers loosened up in the warm sun around 11:00 a.m., it felt even easier to ski. Rabbit, which was also groomed, had a small mogul lane. (*This area is ungroomed when it snows.)

I spoke with a mother from Shizuoka Prefecture who was sledding with her child at the KUROHIME FAMILY PARK. She said, “There is a nice selection of play equipment for the kids, which is fun. On this trip we’re staying at the nearby Hotel Wakatsuki. The access to/from the resort from the hotel is good, and we’ve had a comfortable stay.” The KUROHIME FAMILY PARK had a groomed wet snow base that was initially well-packed, but here too the surface snow began to loosen, and skis and sleds slid well.

The sky was covered in clouds (pictured) by around 11:30 a.m. At the end of my time reporting, I met an instructor with the Kurohime Snowboarding School, and was told, “The slopes are in good condition again today. On 2/3 (Sat.) and 2/8 (Sun.), we’ll use the test slope to hold a skills camp for the instructor test. We hope to see a lot of people come out for the camp.”
