The Chanmero Free Ride 2024 will be held today at 11 a.m. on Omusubi! Participants ranging from 4th graders to adults will be divided into 12 categories, and each person will be judged one single competition run. Before the resort opened for business today, there was a large line of visitors waiting to board the Alpen Quad (pictured), including some of the Free Ride competitors.

My skis slid well on the groomed, hard wet snow surfaces of the Riesen Slalom course, the southern route of Usagidaira Slope (pictured), and the Kurobishi Slope (third photo). Many people were heading toward Kurobishi and Skyline in the morning, so I was able to stretch out and widen my turns on the empty southern side of Usagidaira.

There were small clumps of snow early on along the popular Kurobishi Quad (pictured), but they didn’t affect the skiing. In other news, visitors will be able to try on OAKLEY goggles and helmets inside the Usagidaira Terrace starting at 10:00 a.m. today, and a DJ event will take place at the OAKLEY Terrace later at noon.

Furthermore, the two-day SMITH DEMO CARAVAN is being held in front of the Usagidaira Terrace today and tomorrow. There are about 50 sets of goggles, 20 helmets, and 24 pairs of sunglasses on hand, most of which are 2024-2025 models, though some are 2023-2024 models. Items can be tried out as many times as you like, with a time limit of 30 minutes per item. Staff is available to carefully explain the features of the products, including the all-weather-condition goggles and the new METHOD PRO helmet.
