There was almost no wind early this morning, but with the cold temperature and gray skies, my fingers quickly grew numb when operating my camera. I caught up with a pair of visitors from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We love your site, and always look forward to your resort reports.. This is the first time we’ve run into a reporter from Snownavi! Please use our photo for your report”

There was a cold northerly wind blowing at the top of the ski resort, and dry snow began to fall around 8:45 a.m., just as the Grat Quad started moving. The first half of Riesen Grat (pictured) was groomed with a moderately firm wet snow snow surface that had a powdery feel, while the moguls ont the steep second half of the slope were quite firm.

I was able to pick up good speed on the well-packed, groomed wet snow on the Riesen Slalom Course (pictured). A skier who rode the Happo Riesen with me as I made my way back up commented, “Conditions are good today and my skis are sliding well. I hope we get the snow that’s forecasted to come later today.”

The center portion of the Skyline Course (pictured), the area along the Kurobishi Quad (first photo), and HAPPO PARKS were groomed with well-pressed wet snow bases. In other news, HAPPO PARKS will be closed from 2/7 (Wed.) to 2/9 (Fri.) for a rebuild. The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track and Sakka Wave were both groomed with moderately firm granular snow surfaces.
