It was a nice morning, with the sun peeking in and out from behind the clouds. I spoke with three guests from New Zealand (pictured), who told me, “We are staying in the HAKUBA VALLEY for two weeks, and this is our first visit to Cortina. The groomers look fantastic!” The Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course had moderately soft, groomed powder snow surfaces that were easy to ski from top to bottom.

The ice and snow had continued to build on the trees at the top of the ski resort. The Hiedayama Forest Course (pictured) was groomed with a moderately firm powder snow base, while the ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 featured relatively firm surface tracks and bumps. However, the soft outermost layer of snow made things manageable.

On the groomed Itadaira Course (pictured), which had reasonably-packed, groomed powder snow, my edges gripped the snow surface with ease. From my point of view, today the conditions on the Itadaira Course (pictured) were the best of the season! I ran into a skier from Tochigi Prefecture (pictured) that said, “I check Snownavi occasionally. I came out because I thought the conditions today and tomorrow looked good, and I was right!”

I also had a conversation with a father from Osaka, who told me, “I love your site and have it bookmarked’! I’d love to have my daughter (pictured) make it into your report, but she hates having her picture taken and won’t smile.” She also didn’t like sledding, but was absorbed in playing with snow in the sled instead. On 2/11 (Sun.), the “Cortina Snow Kids Day” will be held at the Kids Park, starting at 10:30 a.m.! Participation is ¥500, or free for 1-Day Passport holders and snow rafting users
