It was a calm, cloudy morning with the sun peeking in and out from behind the clouds. The temperature had dropped all the way to -8℃ on the upper portion of the ski resort in the morning, but strangely it didn’t feel that cold. The Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) was groomed with moderately firm powder snow, and I was able to set my edges and enjoy some nice turns.

The areas around the artifical snow machines located alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift and the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad had hardpacked conditions, so I was careful to control my speed. The rest of the Han-no-ki Slope was groomed with a moderately firm powder snow surface that I fully enjoyed for the full 3 kilometers that it continued!

I spoke with the mother (pictured, left) of a family from Shiga Prefecture, who told me, “I love your site! We are staying at Resort Inn Yamaichi last night and tonight. The snow on the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope was a little too hard, but once we reached the Maruyama Slope, we found the snow to be just right.” As she said, conditions were good on the broad, flatly-groomed Maruyama Slope (pictured) which had a moderately firm, powder snow surface that was easy to ski.

The Champion Slope, Oya-no-hara Slope, Karamatsu Slope, and Shirakaba Slope all had reasonably firm, groomed wet snow surfaces that had the feeling of powder. It’s possible to sit in one of the chairs in front of the Burger King terrace, and relax by the fire. In other news, “CHILL MUSIC NIGHT” (*3 p.m. to 8 p.m., free admission) will be held tomorrow, 2/10 (Sat.), at Tsugaike Yokocho near the gondola base station!
