This morning, I ran into two residents of Hakuba Village (pictured) who told me they were fans of Snownavi, and added, “Sanosaka is a great place to practice snowskating because of the wide, easy-to-ski runs.” Sanosaka allows snowskates, yuki-ita, snowscoots, and other implements as long as they have a leash cord!

Yesterday and today were blessed with clear skies, and although it was a cold start to the morning due to overnight radiative cooling, it quickly warmed up thanks to the sunshine and lack of wind. Today the view of Lake Aoki (pictured) from the top of the ski resort was spectacular! I was able to get some good speed on the well-pressed, groomed wet snow surface of the New Paradise Slope.

The Paradise (pictured) and Paradise Downhill slopes also featured similarly firm, groomed wet snow bases. Since most people headed straight to New Paradise and the Carving Slope, I was able to relax and enjoy wide sweeping turns on the empty Paradise Slope in the morning. Also, since much of the slope is shaded, the snow surface held firm for quite a while.

I came to Sanosaka…or rather Hakuba, for the first time on a tour bus. The scenery is great. The slopes are wide and great. (pictured). This area, which we couldn’t resist taking pictures of, is above the second quad landing area, so the piste marks have been there for a long time. In the latter half of the season, when wet or granular snow becomes more common, Sanosaka in Hakuba may be especially recommended for its beautiful slopes that are a waste of time!
