The Alpen Outdoors Presents HAKUBA Yoo-Hoo! FESTIVAL 2024 will be held this year from 5/18 (Sat.) to 5/26 (Sun.)! Live music performances by famous artists on 5/25 (Sat.) and 5/26 (Sun.) are one of the highlights of the event. Last year, about 2,000 tickets were sold for those two days and the area in front of SKYARK was filled with spectators just after COVID was officially reclassified to a less severe Class 5 infectious disease. This year a VIP seating area appropriate for an outdoor music festival will available for those who want to take in the concert while enjoying BBQ from their special seats. In addition to last year’s performers ISEKI, Sukima Switch, and Gospellers, DEEN (pictured) has been added to the star-studded lineup for this year’s event. The band made big waves in the 90s with their hit songs Kono Mama Kimi Dake wo Ubaisaritai and Hitomi Sorasanaide, as well as Tsubasa wo Hirogete, Hitori Janai, Yume de Aru You Ni, and others.

It was a warm and cloudy start to the morning. The South slope (pictured), which was groomed with a moderately firm, wet snow surface with clumps of snow scattered across it. However, they didn’t affect my skiing, and I was able to enjoy some fun, fast runs. The Sunny Valley Course was in similarly good condition all the way to the junction with the White Ribbon Course.

After the junction, the groomed base of the Sunny Valley had a loose outer layer of granular snow, with more noticerable clumps of snow as I approached the end. By the way, the use of the Kamoshika Racing Course is being restricted from 2/14 (Wed.) to 2/18 (Sun.) due to a competition being held there. Only occasional drops of rain had been falling early on, but that later turned into a more constant light rain.
