Light rain was falling on the slopes this morning, and the groomed Hiedayama Rinkan Course, which starts at the top of the resort, had a loose granular snow surface. It was similar conditions on the other groomed courses as well. The Itadaira Course (pictured) had a loose, ungroomed granular snow base with shallow tracks and surface bumps. Even with the wet weather, it was smooth skiing on both the groomed and ungroomed slopes, especially in the morning.

This morning I spoke with an instructor from the Cortina Ski School (pictured, far left), who told me, “I love your site! These are first-year high school students who have been coming to Cortina every year for more than 10 years. Incidentally, the second-year students are doing their training at Tangram.” One of the students added, “The dinner buffet was delicious!”

The Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course were both groomed with loose, slushly granular snow. I felt myself wanting to lap the Ipponmatsu Course, as it was pretty empty and I was able to ski at speed comfortably. This weekend, on 2/25 (Sun.), a “First Tracks” event exclusively for overnight hotel guests will be held on the Ikenota Slope. (*Starts at 8:15 a.m., limited to the first 10 people to arrive)

On days like this, it’s nice to call it a day early and head to the large public hot spring bath at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. The men’s sauna, which was renovated this season, is equipped with a system that periodically pours aromatic water onto the sauna stones to generate steam. The women’s bath (pictured) is a rock salt sauna, where the “rock salt” spread on the floor is heated to emit far-infrared energy, which warms the body from the core in a short period of time.
