Happo-one REPORT

2024.02.23210cm / Snowy

Winter returned to Hakuba just in time for this three-day weekend, the second one in February! This morning, dry snow was falling and fog was rolling in and out over the slopes. Perhaps because of the combination of high humidity and cold temperatures, not only the upper portion, but also the lower portion of the resort (Sakka Wave and Central Course) were covered in rime ice.

The Panorama Course and the southern route of Usagidaira (pictured) had firm, groomed granular snow surfaces covered with 3 to 5 cm of light, fresh snow. Both courses were in good condition, although the areas with man-made snow on the Panorama Course had a slightly different feel. As is typical of a three-day weekend, the slopes were already busy early in the day.

The area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and the Skyline Course were also in good condition with 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow on top of a moderately packed, groomed granular snow surface. On the other hand, the ungroomed areas were hard packed. I spoke with two visitors from Tokyo and Hakuba (pictured), who commented, “We love your site! We skied the ungroomed area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, but it was difficult because of the hard, uneven surface and new snow. We had to will ourselves down.”

HAPPO PARKS (pictured) will host an event titled MUGEN LINE, tomorrow 2/24 (Sat.), that will feature a joint session with guest riders and a free riding contest. (*Starting at 10:00 a.m., no entry fee). HAPPO PARKS (pictured) had a moderately firm, groomed granular snow surface topped with 2 to 3 cm of new snow, and the route from the lower part of Sakka Wave to Kokusai had a hard, ungroomed granular snow base with 1 to 2 cm of fresh snow on top. (*There were a few areas with exposed bushes).
