The FIS Para Alpine Skiing-sanctioned 2024 Japan Para Alpine Skiing Championships will be held on the Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) from 2/29 (Thurs.) to 3/3 (Sun.). (Giant slalom on 2/29 and 3/1, slalom on 3/2 and 3/3.) The morning started with a bit of sunshine mixed with dry falling snow. The Kokusai 1 Pair was delayed due to the disposal of a fallen tree, and eventually bega moving at 9:40 a.m.
[Riesen Slalom Course]

Riesen had 1 to 2 cm of dry, fresh snow on top of a firm, groomed wet snow base up top, and a similarly firm, groomed surface of fine-grained granular snow towards the end (pictured). The frost-covered trees that developed from the freezing rain and snow on 2/22 (Thurs.) were still on display thanks to the continued cold temperatures, and stretched all the way to the area around the Happo Riesen Quad boarding area.
[Riesen Slalom Course]

Riesen Grat (pictured), at the top of the ski resort, was covered with thick fog, and a weak wind was blowing from the north. There were 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow on the well-packed, groomed wet snow surfaces of Riesen Grat Course and the southern route of Usagidaira, and about 10 cm of fluffy fresh snow on hard moguls and uneve surfaces of the ungroomed areas.

The area along the Kurobishi Quad and the Skyline Course (pictured) had 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow on moderately firm, groomed wet snow bases, and I was able to repeat turns comfortably just as I had done on Riesen. The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track and Sakka Slope were groomed with moderately firm granular snow, and the cold temperatures and snowfall since 2/22 (Thu.) had improved the overall slope conditions.
