Tsugaike REPORT

2024.02.25175cm / Snowy

This, the second three-day weekend in February, was another busy one at Tsugaike, and was blessed with the return of cold temperatures. The lightly falling dry snow made for a somewhat gloomy start to the morning, but the firmly-groomed, fine-grained granular snow surfaces of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) and Gotemba Course were in good condition, and I was able to set my edges and enjoy some speedy runs.

I rain into a group from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me that they occasionally check Snownavi. They added, “’We’re a group of three families who are out enjoying the three-day weekend with all of our kids.” By the way, the Tsugaike Ropeway’s early spring operation will kick off this weekend, on 3/2 (Sat.)! In addition to a standard lift ticket, ropeway tickets are required (*Adults JPY1,390 round trip, JPY760 one way / Elementary School Students JPY700 round trip, JPY380 one way), and mountain climbing reports must also be submitted.

The first half of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) had a hard-packed, groomed granular snow base with a thin layer of fresh snow, and was icy in some spots. the last half of Han-no-ki and the Maruyama Slope were groomed with a firm granular snow base. In contrast to the trees at the top of the resort, the trees along the Han-no-ki Slope were stained white with frost due to the freezing rain that fell on 2/22 (Thurs.).

Today, 2/25 (Sun.), was “Snow Day” at Tsugaike, and featured a raffle and giveaway of Kouan’s special oyaki “koyaki” at Tsugaike Park (pictured, yellow building in the background) from 9:00 a.m. The broad, groomed Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) was also in good firm condition, and I was able to repeat turns as I wished.
