Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2024.02.28175cm / Snow Flurries

This morning I was greeted by a group of five snowboarders living in Hakuba (pictured) who were the first to ride the No. 9 Pair. They told me they were Snownavi fans, and added, “We love your site! We came here to ride some of the preserved powder on Sky View since the No. 10 Pair Lift was suspended yesterday.” And yes, all the snow that fell starting the night before last and continuing to last night was still left untouched on Sky View thanks to the closure of the No. 10 Pair.

Intermittent gusts of wind and light snow made it feel cold, but just like the group of five mentioned above, visitors aiming for fresh pow on Sky View gathered one after another. The No. 9 Pair Lift started at 8:45, followed by the No. 10 Pair at 9:10. In the end, the Sky View slope (pictured) had 30 to 45 cm of fresh snow, and the wind-packed surface made it easy to stay afloat without bottoming out on the moderately firm surface below.

Once the Sky View Slope was tracked out, the next target was the self-responsibility area (pictured) on the west side of the same slope. With 35 to 40 cm of fresh snow here as well, I was able to fully enjoy the floating sensation of fresh powder! The groomed courses such as Satomi Central (first photo) and Hakunori Family had moderately soft, easy-to-ski powder snow conditions.

I caught up with a group that included the manager of Patagonia Hakuba (pictured, front row, second from left), who greeted me and said, “What a fantastic day!” As I held up my camera to snap a photo of him, other Patagonia users who all knew each other joined in saying they were fans of Snownavi, and commenting about how much they were enjoying the powder.
