This morning I spoke with a couple from Nagano City (pictured), who told me, “We came to Kurohime for the first time because we heard that we could snowboard with our dog. Actually, we’re beginners, so we’re not even sure if we’ll be able to board properly.” On the Dog Course (pictured), owners can ski with their dogs as long as they are on a leash. are allowed to ski with their dogs as long as they are leashed. For this couple, their dog seemed to be having a blast, as its tail was wagging happily amongst the densely falling snow.

Another man from Tokyo who was playing with his dog Sakura (pictured) on the Dog Run (pictured), located near the No.7 Pair off-ramp said, “I’m grateful Sakura can play in such a spacious dog run. Sakura is running around energetically, but I am exhausted.” In related news, the Kurohime Wanmatsuri (Dog Festival) will take place this weekend, 3/2 (Sat.) and 3/3 (Sun.)!

I caught up with two people from Chiba Prefecture (pictured) who had skied down Snake (pictured, background), and they told me, “It had been a while since we were able to enjoy 20+ cm of fluffy powder. It felt great. We were worried about the strong winds, but it looks like it will be fine.” The snow gradually let up, and by 11:20 a.m., the sun was shining through the clouds.

The official base depth had decreased all the way down to 35 cm due to the rain from 2/20 (Tue.) to 2/21 (Wed.), but the cold temperatures and fresh snowfall that returned on 2/22 (Thu.) brought it back to 50 cm, and the quality of the snow has also bounced back to powder! (There are also no exposed bushes.) The snow started to fall in earnest again around 11:30 a.m. along with strong northerly winds.
