The officially announced 30 cm of new snow was not an exaggeration, and I was thrilled to see how much fresh snow was being pushed around by the grooming machine (pictured) that operates at the snow park! I spoke to two people from Gifu who were the first on the Super Quad, and they told me, “Yesterday we were bottoming out on the base, but today we’re expecting a lot more. We’re heading straight to World Cup.” Just like them, I also decided to head to World Cup.

At World Cup (pictured), the outermost surface had been slightly battered by the wind, but the 50 cm of light and fluffy new snow provided plenty of float, and I found myself exclaiming out loud, “Oh, this feels so good!” Although my face hurt from the heavily falling snow and occasional strong gusts of wind, I enjoyed the fresh pow to the fullest.

I meet a skier (pictured) who said, “That felt amazing! I hope you post the photos you took because I’d love to see them!” Afterwards, I headed to the No. 13 Lift to try the Powder Theater tree area, but unfortunately heard an announcement from the ski patrol that the lift would be closed for the time being due to strong winds. (*The lift eventually started operating around 10:40 a.m.)

I crossed paths with the owner of Lodge Raven (pictured), who asked me, “Have you gained weight since the last time I saw you two years ago? Since the No. 13 lift is not working, I’m going to give SAWA a try.” I enjoyed taking a run on the groomed lower portion of crystal, where 5 to 10 cm of dry, fresh snow topped a pressed powder base. The fluffy, fresh snow on SAWA1 was also very enjoyable.
