It was snowing steadily around 8:30 a.m., but started to lighten up around 9:30. Now that we’ve entered March, there is only one month left for the resort’s winter season. Early this morning I met two people from Aichi Prefecture and Ueda City (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! We’re here for the powder today!”

On the mornings immediately following a heavy snowfall, many people head for the ungroomed, steep World Cup Slope, so today I targeted the River Line tree area (pictured) instead, which is located between Super Quad and Champion. Although the underlying base was composed of hard-packed wet snow, the 25 to 30 cm of fluffy new snow on top provided an excellent cushion that made for pleasant skiing.

I ran across a resort staff member (pictured) who greeted me as he boarded by while filming a video. Over on Crystal Bowl (pictured), I found about 30 cm of fresh snow that felt slightly heavier than Riverline, but I was able to ski without really feeling or worrying about the hard base below.

The groomers were at work on Paradise (first photo) and Giant until around 8:00 a.m., and both had moderately soft, easy-to-ski powder snow conditions! I was able to repeat turns comfortably on the lower half of Crystal (pictured), Sky View, and Carving thanks to their moderately firm, groomed powder snow surfaces.
