It was a chilly morning with occasional sunshine. Early today I spoke with a father from Toyama Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We decided to come to Cortina after seeing how much snow fell yesterday. This is our first time at Cortina and our first time to bring our children to the Hakuba area.” Thanks to the continued cold weather, the quality of the powder snow was noticeable.

The Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course had excellent, moderately firm, groomed powder snow conditions, and I thoroughly enjoyed laying down fresh tracks on the immaculately-maintained surfaces. Ipponmatsu was relatively uncrowded for a weekend, and was a great place to ski first thing in the morning.

I ran into a couple from Aich Prefecture (pictured) that said, “We love your site! The information in the resort reports is very useful. It is very nice to meet someone from Snownavi.” The Rabbit Course (pictured) was groomed with a well-packed powder snow base. The Snake Course was also groomed, with firmly-pressed powder snow in the beginning and middle of the course, and wet snow that felt like powder on the last half of the course.

The Kids Park (pictured) was crowded with people sledding and playing in the snow. A mother from Tokyo (pictured) commented, “I brought my child to Cortina for the first time. The hotel is close to the slopes, so we can go right back to our room, and its nice because there are so many things for kids to play with.” The annual kids’ Treasure Hunt was held at 10:30 a.m today.
