This morning I spoke with a student from the Waseda University Springen Ski Club (pictured), who told me, “I love your site. Our team has won the men’s club championship in the alpine skiing division of the National Student Ski Competition Iwatake for two years in a row. I’m a first-year student and this will be my first competition. I’m aiming to place in the rookie competition!” The last round of heavy snow came to an end yesterday, and it was a calm, cloudy morning.

The flat surface of the Carving Slope (pictured) had nice, soft powder snow conditions! It was in such good shape that it made me feel like I had suddenly become much better at skiing. Not only was the snow quality excellent, but also the snow depth has increased all the way up to 100cm, so even when considering the long-term weather forecast, I’m hopeful Sanosaka will make it to the final day of the season on 3/24 (Sun.).

I ran into two members of the Shinshu University Medical School Ski Club (pictured), who told me they occasionally check the Snownavi site. They continued, “We are practicing for the East Japan Medical Student Skiing Competition that will take place in Sugadaira.” The Lake Down Course, like the Carving Slope, was groomed with a moderately soft powder snow surface.

I also spoke with three guests from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) who told me they came out on a package tour with Orion Tour, and that today was their first time to snowboard. The groomed Paradise Slope (pictured), with its moderately soft, powdery groomed snow, was nice and wide and not too painful to fall on, and seemed like the perfect place to practice. The snow surface tightened up a bit more as I entered the groomed Paradise Downhill.
