This morning fog was rolling in and out across the upper portion of the ski resort. Although there was no real wind to speak of, the air was cold and it felt quite chilly. The Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) was groomed with a firm powder snow surface on the top two thirds of the course, and firm wet snow over the last part; making it very easy to ski from top to bottom.

The groomed southern route of Usagidaira (pictured) had hard-packed wet snow right at the beginning, probably due to artificial snow, but beyond that, it was well-packed powder that made for excellent skiing. In other news, the 2024 BANKED SLALOM in HAPPO-ONE scheduled for this weekend, March 9 (Sat.), has been cancelled due to diffculties in preparing the course and operating the event.

The large amount of snowfall from 2/29 (Thu.) to 3/2 (Sat.), and again from 3/3 (Sun.) to 3/4 (Mon.), have resulted in the reopening of Omusubi on 3/3 (Sun.) as well as the Nakiyama No. 2 Slope, and the new Kitaone Course on 3/5 (Mon.). Nakiyama (pictured), Shirakaba, and Sakka each had well-packed, groomed wet snow bases, and there were no exposed bushes or areas with thin snow cover.

I spoke with a regular at Happo, who commented, “Happo is shaping up nicely in March.” The firmly-groomed, powder snow surfaces of the area along the Kurobishi Quad and the Skyline Course (pictured) were in fantastic condition. The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track was also groomed, with well-packe, “powdery” wet snow.
