We have had a long stretch of snowy days with a few short breaks in between, and heavy snow is forecasted again for this weekend. That’s great timing, as the last First Tracks session of the season (limited to overnight hotel guests, starts at 8:15, first 10 arrivals) is scheduled to take place on 3/10 (Sun.) on the Ikenota Slope (pictured). The snow that had been falling earlier this morning had almost fully stopped by around 8:00 am, and it the sky was cloudy and gray.
[Ikenota Slope]
The groomed Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course had moderately firm wet snow surfaces with a powdery feel. The broad Ikenota Slope was a great place to make big, sweeping turns this morning, while the Ipponmatsu Course was nearly empty first thing in the morning, and I was able to carve fresh tracks into the beautiful corduroy over and over.

A cold northerly wind was blowing as I got off the 3rd Quad. I ran into the father (pictured) of a family from Osaka, who told me, “I love your site! This is our first time at Cortina, and we yesterday for a 3-day, 2-night stay. The slopes are right next to the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, and the price is very reasonable.”
[Rabbit Course]
The Rabbit (3rd photo) and Snake (pictured) courses were groomed with firm, “powdery” wet snow sufaces. Although there were small clumps of snow on the surface at the end of the Snake Course, both courses were fun to ski from top to bottom. The only course that is currently closed is the Itadaira Ridge Course, which can be seen in the background of this photo.
