The groomed, moderately firm powder snow conditions on the Panorama Course (pictured) first thing this morning were spectacular. There were occasional patches of fog, but they didn’t hinder the skiing. As the clouds above parted and it became brighter, I headed for the Riesen Grat Course, hoping to emerge above the clouds.

As I had hoped, I broke through the clouds while riding the Alpen Quad. From Riesen Grat (pictured) there were magnificent views of the sea of clouds to the east, and I ran into a Happo regular who told me “I haven’t seen such a beautiful sea of clouds in a long time.” Around me I could hear other people saying how it was a beautiful day and taking pictures with their smartphones.

Because there have been so many snow days recently, it felt like it had been a long time since I had seen views of the Northern Alps. The groomed part of Riesen Grat had moderately packed powder snow, while the ungroomed part to the skiers’ left was crisscrossed with soft tracks. The area along the Kurobishi Quad and the Skyline Course were groomed with firm, powder snow bases that were very easy to ski.

HAPPO PARKS (pictured) had well-maintained elements, and a firm, groomed wet snow surface that felt like powder. The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track, Sakka Wave, Sakka Slope, and Shirakaba Slope had moderately-packed, groomed wet snow. In other news, spring skiing discount will take effect on 3/11 (Mon.). Adult 1-Day Tickets for HAPPO PARKS (*¥4,000 yen, 3/11 to 3/24, valid for the Sakka Kitaone Quad and Kitaone 3 Lift) will be offered as a new option this year.
