Thanks to the big dumps of snow from 3/8 (Fri.) to 3/10 (Sun.), the officially announced snow depth has exceeded 300 cm! Things were looking grim for a while, but with relatively constant cold temperatures and regular snowfall since the end of February, Happo’s base is a full 40 cm more than it was on this same day last year. And on this day blessed with beautiful clear skiers, 3/11 (Monday), spring skiing discounts kicked in at Happo. (*One-day passes exclusively for HAPPO PARKS are also now on sale!)

I met a couple from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! Yesterday we enjoyed fresh powder, and today the groomers are in great condition. It seems that we timed our visit perfectly.” The groomed areas along the Kurobishi Quad, the southern route of Usagidaira, and the Skyline Course were in perfect powder condition!

In other news, HAPPO PARKS will be closed from 3/14 (Thu.) to 3/15 (Fri.) for a rebuild. Also, the HAPPO PARKS NATURES 2024 GRAND FINAL PARTY will be held this weekend, 3/16 (Sat). (*Starting at 10:00 a.m., free of charge) The views of the Hakuba Sanzan, the three major Hakuba peaks, silhouetted against the blue sky were so beautiful from various locations across the upper portion of the slopes, that I found myself pointing my camera their way often.

The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track had a moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface, while Sakka Wave, the Sakka Slope (pictured), and the Shirakaba Slope had “powdery” groomed wet snow bases. It was a shame because visitors were slow to turn out despite the perfect weather and conditions since it was a weekday in March.
