The snow flurries that began falling around 7:00 a.m. had turned into heavy snow by around 8:00 a.m. At that point, it was a mild -2℃, and the wind was light, so it didn’t feel particularly cold. The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) had a groomed, moderately firm wet snow surface that my edges gripped well and my skis slid well across, so I was able to take advantage of the broad slope and make enjoyable, wide turns.

About an hour later, I met two visitors from Tokyo (pictured) who said, “We think we’ve seen the Snownavi site before. We came to Hakunori for the first time because it is one of 19 resorts that we are eligible to use our season ticket at.” The Kamoshika Course and Hakunori Family Course were also groomed with moderately-packed, easy-to-slide wet snow bases.

The Rabbit Course (pictured) had a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel. In other news, because the mogul competitions scheduled for this season have all finished as of last week, the mogul lanes on the Rabbit Course will be groomed before the weekend.

The groomed Highway Course (pictured) had a moderately firm, wet snow surface with a “powdery” feel up top, and wet snow lower down. When I skied there, the first half of the Highway was under a cover of thick fog. By the time I finished my coverage at 10:00 a.m., the wind was stronger than in the morning, and the falling snow was smaller and less wet.
