Yesterday, a low-pressure system off the southern coast brought wet snow before moving eastward, resulting in a winter atmospheric pattern this morning. While fog fluctuated in density across the upper parts of the ski resort, dry snow was coming down hard. The north winds were mild around the Usagidaira Terrace area but relatively strong at the top of the Usagidaira Slope, the Kurobishi Slope, and on Riesen Grat.

When the fog thickened, it was difficult to distinguish the boundary between the groomed and ungroomed areas, so I had to ski cautiously. On the south side route of the groomed Usagidaira Slope, the powder snow surface was moderately packed with about 10 to 15 cm of fresh snow on top. Transitioning to the Sodeguro area (pictured here & first photo above), I encountered around 30 cm of fluffy powder on top of the moderately firm base that provided plenty of fun, even though I occasionally bottomed out on the tracks below.

A snowboarder who had just descended the ungroomed area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured) remarked, “I’m hitting the bottom a bit, but it feels great!” The depth of the new snow along the Kurobishi 3 Pair was 30 to 35cm, while on the ungroomed area of Skyline, it measured 25 to 30cm. By the way 3/17 (Sun.) is the next “Ski Children’s Day,” where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free. Also, on the same day, the “Hakuba Happo-One Kids Snow” ski competition will be held on the Nakiyama Slope.

Along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and on the groomed areas of the Skyline Course, I enjoyed cutting smooth turns through the approximately 5 to 10 cm of light new snow. HAPPO PARKS, with a light dusting of 2 3 cm of new snow, had a moderately packed powder surface. Meanwhile, Sakka Wave, the Sakka Slope, and the Shirakaba Slope had moderately packed wet snow bases with a thicker layer of between 3 to 5 cm of soft new snow.
