The snow and cold temperatures that continued until 3/13 (Wed.) delayed the start of the peak mogul season, but it’s time now! The morning sky was clear and blue, and medium to large-sized bumps spread across the surface on the ungroomed area along the Alpen Quad (pictured). On the other hand, the famous mogul area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, which is right up there with Usagidaira, still only had shallow surface bumps.

The Riesen Slalom Course (pictured here & third photo) had well-pressed, groomed powder snow on the top half, and firm, groomed wet snow with occasional clumps of snow on the Usuba Slope at the end. It was easy to ski and I was able to link controlled, comfortable turns from top to bottom.

In other news, this weekend the HAPPO PARKS NATURES 2024 GRAND FINAL PARTY will be held on 3/16 (Sat.), and Ski Children’s Day and the “Hakuba Happo-One Kids Snow” skiing competition on 3/17 (Sun.). As I skied down to the gondola base station, the groomed snow changed to a more moist, granular snow as I entered the Shirakaba Slope.

The south route of Usagidaira, the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), and the Skyline Course were all in excellent groomed condition with moderately firm, powder snow surfaces. I spoke with a skier from Yokohama (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! It’s my first time to run into someone from Snownavi. Today is a fantastic day in so many ways!” A member of the ski patrol remarked, “It’s rare to find such good conditions in the middle of March.”
