The sky was clear, though slightly hazy, and I had to take off one of my inner layers as the temperature was rising rapidly. As of 10:30 a.m., the groomed Kamoshika (pictured) and Highway courses had granular snow surfaces that were already soft and loose. Hakunori has been blessed with abundant snowfall late in the season, so you can still ski the steep, ungroomed Expert and Snake courses (pictured, background left) on the lower part of the mountain!

The Mogul Course (pictured) located on the second half of the Highway Course currently has three lanes open. All of them have kickers on both the upper portion and lower portion of the lane. I spoke with a staff member who said, “The snow surfaces is loose and it’s a bit difficult to turn your skis, so please ski with care. With this much snow, it looks like we’ll make it until the scheduled last day of business. Come ski with us!”
[Mogul Course]
The Mogul Course is open to everyone regardless of level. Even if you don’t want to try it yourself, you can watch the impressive speed, technique, big air of the advanced skiers up close. In other news, the last Kids Event of the season will be held this weekend on 3/17 (Sun.), with snowmobile rides (for elementary school students and younger) and a free serving of tonjiru pork miso soup. (*Starting at 10:00 a.m., free of charge.)

The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured), Wakaguri Forest Course, and Hakunori Family Course were also groomed with a loose top layer of granular snow. I spoke with some students (pictured) visiting Hakunori for the first time, who remarked, “We are beginners and this is only our third or fourth run. The snow quality is better than we expected and the slopes are broad and easy to ski.”
