REPORT

Due to the recent winter weather pattern caused by a low-pressure system off of the south coast, snow has been accumulating rapidly, and the 170 cm base depth as of 3/16 (Sat.) is almost triple the amount recorded on the same day last year. In the Omatsuyama and Tsubakuro areas of Pine Beak, all courses are open, although there are some areas restricted for private use and/or competitions. This morning, the sky was blue and slightly hazy, similar to yesterday.

I spoke with a lift worker at the Omatsu No. 1 Quad, who remarked, “We had about 40 cm of new snow on 3/13 (Wed.).” The first half of the Friend Course was groomed with moderately firm wet snow that had a powdery feel, while the shaded second half of the run, as well as the GO-no-hara Course (pictured), were groomed with moderately packed powder snow surfaces. I was able to ride at a good speed and maintain my edges.

The groomed, “powdery” wet snow bases of the Family Course (pictured), the Holiday Course, and the Omatsuyama Course were firm and in good condition. There was a medium-sized mogul lane on the skiers’ left side of the Omatsuyama Course.

A north wind was blowing strongly on the Shin-Fuji Course (pictured), and 1 to 5 cm of dry snow that had been blown in by the wind sat on top of a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface. A 2024/2025 NEW Model Ski Test-Ride & Reservation Event will be held on the Ura Taro Family Slope on 3/23 (Sat.) and 3/24 (Sun). (Starts at 8:00, JPY2,750 in advance, JPY3,500 same-day)
