It was a warm, cloudy morning with a temperature of 4℃. The Ikenota Slope (pictured), Ipponmatsu Course, and Warabidaira Slope were groomed with loose granular snow that started to slush as early as 9:30 a.m. On the other hand, the Itadaira Course (pictured), which also had groomed granular snow, felt more well-packed than yesterday likely because of the weaker sunshine.

I ran into members of the “Kawasemies” ski and snowboard team, who told me, “We love your site! Itadaira is firmer and easier to ski than yesterday.” The early part of the Hiedayama Forest Course and Itadaira Forest Course (pictured) were groomed with moderately firm, fine granular snow surfaces. Around the middle part of Hiedayama Rinkan, the snow was loose and crumbly.

By the way, I’m often told by first-time visitors to Cortina that they were pleased and surprised by the number and variety of runs. In fact, today, I had a conversation with a man from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who remarked, “I love your site! I often come to the Hakuba area to ski, but this is my first visit to Cortina, and I’m staying at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. I didn’t realize there were so many different courses.”

Each of the 16 courses in Cortina has its own personality, and perhaps considered with the tree areas and sidecountry, it may feel like there are even more. I spoke with a tour guide (pictured, far left), who said, “I love your site. We’re going to ski off course, then come back.”
