At 8:30 a.m., the temperature on the Ura Taro Slope was a brisk -4°C, and the strong northerly wind made it feel like it was the middle of winter again. That wind caused the opening of the Stage 3 Lift to be delayed slightly, with it eventually beginning operation at 8:40 a.m. On the slopes, the Ura Taro Family West (pictured) and East had well-packed, groomed granular snow that my skis slid well across.

Shirogane Schwarz (pictured) had a moderately firm groomed surface composed of granular and wet snow that my edges held well to, enabling me to link controlled, comfortable turns. The groomed Taro Long forest road course had a high percentage of wet snow, which made it feel softer than Shirogane Schwarz.

Later in the morning, the pockets of blue sky above slowly expanded, and sunlight began to reach the slopes for longer periods of time, making it feel more comfortable. The south-facing Hinode Slope (pictured) and Tengu had even surfaces that were losing up every so slightly, but still easy to ski. In other news, the spring discount took effect today in the Davos and Taro areas.

Also, a season pass discount campaign is now underway for the Davos/Taro areas, where skiers can receive a discount on one-day lift tickets by presenting a 2023-24 season pass of another resort. I spoke with a father from Gunma Prefecture (pictured, left) who remarked, “Oh, Snownavi, I love your site! I came here to ski with my son who is on spring break. My skis are running well on the slopes today, so I have to be careful not to get going too fast.”
