Yesterday’s winter weather system brought dry snow to the area, and with the Grat Quad closed all day, the fresh snow on Riesen Grat (pictured) remained smooth and untouched this morning. When I took off my skis and stuck my foot in, I found a soft layer of snow (about 70 cm deep!) that easily buried my leg up to my crotch. Many of those who boarded the Alpen Quad could be seen heading for the Grat Quad.

The Riesen Grat Course had soft snow with fantastic floatation, and cheers of joy accompanied the rooster tails of spray rising up from the skiers and boarders dropping in. I spoke with a staff member of Cafe & Restaurant Pilar who came down the slope and remarked, “This will probably be the last powder of the season. It felt so good. After you finish skiing, come visit us at Cafe & Restaurant Pilar.”

The groomed slopes of Usagidaira and Kurobishi had excellent powder snow conditions! The southern route of Usagidaira had well-packed snow at the beginning and a slightly less firm surface from the middle to the end of the route. The groomed area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured had a moderately firm base that was especially easy to ski and I found myself wanting to go again and again.

The powder snow conditions continued unchanged as I skied down Skyline, HAPPO PARKS, the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track, and Sakka Wave. The Shirakaba Slope was groomed with a moderately firm wet snow surface with a powdery feel. This was the first clear morning since 3/19 (Tue.), with clouds thin clouds rolling and out out, and the temperature dropped down to -7℃ due to radiative cooling.
