It was a pleasant and warm sunny morning with thin cloud coverage. I spoke with a family from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! We stayed at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba last night. It’s been a few years since we last ran into a Snownavi reporter.” My skis slid well on the Ipponmatsu Course (pictured) and Ikenota Slope, where the groomed surfaces were composed of loose granular snow.

On the steep, east-facing Itadaira Slope (pictured), there was a thick layer of soft granular snow that my edges sunk deeply into. The Hiedayama Forst Course had a moderately firm groomed granular snow base that was easy to ski. Despite the thing cloud cover, it felt hot as the sun strengthened toward midday.

It was a busy Sunday start on the Ikenota Slope (pictured), with many children visiting on their spring vacations. A mother from Nara Prefecture (pictured,left) told me she was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I’ve been checking the latest snow conditions on Snownavi. My two daughters are going to take lessons with the Cortina Snowboard School, and my 7-year-old (pictured, front) is making her snowboarding debut today.”

This is the final week of the winter season for, which will close on 3/31. I met a group of students from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured) who were taking advantage of the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba’s student ski package that includes a 1-Day Lift Pass. They told me they decided at the last minute to use the final part of their spring break for a snowboarding trip, and that it was their first time to visit Cortina. They added, “We’re going to go hard today and tomorrow!”
