Thanks to the snow that has fallen several times since the beginning of March, Kurumayama Kogen has extended its season until 4/7 (Sun.). I spoke with a staff member this morning who told me, “We got about 10 cm of slightly wet snow yesterday, so the conditions are good today.” The Sportsman Course (pictured), a steep, north-facing groomed slope with a maximum angle of 38 degrees, had a moderately firm powder snow surface!

I met a mother from Shizuoka Prefecture, who remarked, “I love your site! We came to Kurumayama for the first time together with another family. I like Adventure Land (pictured) because there are no additional fees as long as you have a lift ticket. Ko-kun (pictured, right) and Ao-chan (pictured, back left), who were playing with snow striders, flashed me a smile and told me they were having fun.

The Panorama Course (pictured) was groomed with moderately firm powder snow at the beginning and well-packed wet snow with a powdery feel from the middle to the end of the course. My skis slid well and my edges held firm, so I was able to ski at a good speed. The first half of the groomed Family Course had a “powdery” wet snow base that was moderately packed, while the second half had similarly firm wet snow that was also easy to ski!

I had a chat with five people from Aichi and Nagano prefectures (pictured), who told me, “We’re here snowboarding together because we share the same hobby. We’re surprised at how good the snow quality was even though it’s late March.” I overheard other visitors on the summit of Kurumayama talking excitedly about how great the view was, and how they could see Mt. Fuji.
