Spring skiing discounts have been in effect at Tsugaike since 3/18 (Mon.), with adult 1-day tickets available for JPY4,700 and tickets for elementary school students only JPY2,900. Today Tsugaike hosted the “Yukiyama-zuki Atsumete Mita!” event. I spoke with the captain (pictured, fifth from left) of Team GP (Gundam Performance), who told me, “I love your site! Team GP has 32 members hailing from Hokkaido to Shizuoka. It’s way too hot today, especially inside these costumes.”

Early this morning, it was 4°C on the upper portion of the mountain and 12°C (!) at the base. Though the weather was warm and sunny, the gondola was only operating up to the mid-station due to strong winds. I ran into a pair of snowboarders from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured, right and center), who told me they were Snownavi fans, and added, “We stayed in Shinanomachi last night and drove out here to board. It’s too bad we can’t go up to the top because of the strong winds.” The Shirakaba Quad started on time, but was also forced to stop temporarily and slow down on occasion because of the wind.

The loose, soft granular snow surfaces of the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured), Shirakaba Slope (second photo), Maruyama Slope, and the lower part of Han-no-ki had slushy conditions in areas where tracks had been laid. However, my skis still slid well and I was able to gain good speed.

I had a quick chat with a family from Aichi prefecture, who remarked, “We love Snownavi! It’s our first time to meet a Snownavi reporter; you are really are out on the slopes!” In other news, the second round of registration for the “6th BANKED SLALOM TSUGAIKE” scheduled to be held next week on 4/6* (Sat.) is open until tomorrow, 3/31 (Sun.). (*4/7 is a back-up day).
