Yesterday marked the last day for Sakka, Kitaone, and Kokusai, but Happo is still “mostly open” (i.e., 50% or more runs open) and has plenty of snow! It’s possible to ski down from Riesen (pictured) to Nakiyama or Shirakaba, or you can also take the gondola back down. As for restaurants, Sun Terrace Panorama is now closed and Karuizawa Primo is closed on Thursdays.
[Riesen Slalom Course]

Today I spoke with two instructors from the Hakuba Happo-One Ski & Snowboard School (pictured), who told me, “We weren’t expecting it to snow today! Our school is offering lessons right up until the last day of the season, 5/6 (Mon., national holiday). Come out and join us for a lesson!” It was drizzling at the bottom of the mountain, but wet snow was falling across the middle and upper slopes.
[Kurobishi Slope]

The Riesen Slalom Course (first photo) and Panorama Course (pictured, left) had a groomed granular snow surface that was loose from the start, but I was able to make smooth and comfortable turns even with my edges sinking deeply into the snow. The southern route of Usagidaira was groomed with a firm granular snow base, while the groomed area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) had a moderately firm surface of granular snow.
[Skyline Course]

The Skyline Course (pictured) was groomed with a thick layer of loose granular snow right from the start of the day, and after skiing down I headed back up on the Skyline 2 Pair since the run further down to the base area was closed. In other news, the 24-25 BLASTRACK & OGASAKA SKI TEST RID” will be held in front of Usagidaira Terrace from 4/6 (Sat.) to 4/8 (Mon.), and the annual HAPPO SPRING FESTIVAL will be held at the OAKLEY TERRACE on 4/7 (Sun.)!
