It was a pleasant cloudy morning with warm temperatures and no wind. Although the ungroomed areas were a noticeable shade of brown due to Asian Dust, the groomed areas still remained reasonably white this morning. My skis slid well on the Riesen Slalom Course (pictured), which had a groomed granular snow surface that was loose from the start.

With rain in the forecast, visitor turnout was low, and I enjoyed making leisurely, big sweeping turns on the Panorama Course (pictured), which also had a loose, groomed granular snow base. I spoke with a season ticket holder from Saitama Prefecture, who told me, “I love your site! I’ve come out three weeks in a row to ski. Yesterday I was only able to ski half a day due to the strong winds and today, rain is in the forecast, so I’m wearing my rainwear.”

In other news, only two shops are still operating after 4/1 (Mon.): the gondola base station’s Adam Plaza (pictured, 8:00 to 17:00 daily) and the Usagidaira Terrace shop (*closed weekly on Wednesdays and other irregular days off). The manager of Adam Plaza remarked, “Our best-selling items this season have been our original stickers, of which there are more than 80 varieties. People put them on their skis and helmets.”

I ran into the owner of BOARD TUNE Yukizo (pictured), who told me he was a fan of Snownavi before adding, “The slopes were empty and in good shape this morning. Our shop is running a 20% off spring discount campaign right now. Stop by on your way home.” In the end, no rain fell while I was on location for my report until 10:30 a.m.
