Shiga REPORT

2024.04.05215cm / Cloudy

With Sunvalley, Maruike, Hasuike, Giant, Higashidateyama, Nishidateyama, Hoppo Bunadaira, Tannenomori Okojo, and Ichinose Yamanokami closing for the season at the end of March, Shiga Kogen as a whole is now “partially open” as of 4/1 (Mon.). However, Yokoteyama & Shibutoge are still “fully open” (over 80% of terrain is still skiable)! The weather this morning was pleasant and comfortable, with a few clouds hanging overhead.

I spoke with two people from Osaka and Shiga Prefectures (pictured), who said, “We love your site, and never thought we would run into a Snownavi reporter. We come to Shiga Kogen every February and April to ski with our former colleagues. The conditions are great for this time of year!” The groomed Kaiwa Slope’s A and C courses were in good condition, with loose granular snow.

Due to the YOKOTEYAMA CUP being held on 4/6 (Sat.) and 4/7 (Sun.), use of the Kaiwa C course will be restricted. The First Slope (pictured) had a loose, groomed granular snow surface, while the Second Slope had a moderately firm, groomed granular snow surface over the first half that softened over the second half. Both slopes had flat finishes that were very easy to ski, and I noticed people lapping them over and over.

I ran into a couple from Nagano City (pictured), who told me they use the Snownavi site all the time, and added, “We usually ski at Goryu47 where we have season tickets, but today we came to Shiga Kogen hoping for some firmer snow.” By the way, Yokoteyama will open in the early morning on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4/6 (Sat.) to 4/24 (Wed.). (*The Second Sky lift will operate from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m.; adults ¥3,000, junior high and high school students and those aged 60 and over ¥2,500, elementary school students ¥2,000).

*The snow depth listed at the top of this report is the highest reported throughout the Shiga Kogen area. Currently, that amount of 215 cm is at Kumanoyu, while the official amount for Yokoteyama is 160 cm.
