Sugadaira Kogen Snow Resort has extended its seasonal operation until 4/21 (Sun.), making it the longest season in the past 10 years. I spoke with a season pass holder from the town of Sakaki in Nagano Prefecture, who told me, “I love your site. I practiced a lot at Sugadaira this season and passed my technical ski test. It’s nice to to still be skiing this time of year.” It turned out to be a pleasant sunny day with some clouds in the sky.

Even though the Stage 3 Lift (445m) is the only one operating, you can stil ski the five main slopes of Sugadaira: Ura Taro Family East (pictured) & West, Kamoshika, Usagi, and Super Racer. There are also moderate-sized mogul lanes along Stage 3 (pictured). I saw people taking mogul runs from the start of the day, and the loose, granular snow conditions made it slightly easier.

All four groomed slopes had loose granular snow surfaces that my skis slid well across. At Ura Taro Kamoshika (pictured), I spoke with Mr. Aramaki of the Smile Snowboard School, who told me, “We extended the school operation for two weeks to coincide with the ski resort’s extended opening. There’s not a lot of people at this time of the year, so it’s great for practicing.” The school also has a permanent pole course set up on the same slope. (*Open from 9:00 a.m., ¥1,500 per day.)

The Ura Taro Rabbit Course (pictured) was pretty quiet, and the fresh groomed corduroy lasted a long time. In other news, the Season Pass Discount Campaign has been extended to along with the resort’s opening period. Show your season pass (*junior high school age or older) from another ski resort and a the fee for a 1-day pass will be reduced to ¥3,300! Also, this will be the last edition of the Sugadaira resort report for this season. Thank you very much for reading them this year.
