Happo-one REPORT

2024.04.20170cm / Sunny

The moguls are getting deeper at Happo’s Usagidaira! It was a pleasant morning with sunny skies, and skiers were dropping into the mogul slope one after another to take advantage of the looser, less challenging snow conditions. There was some exposed ground on the early part of the mogul slope, but it was clearly visible from the Alpen Quad and therefore didn’t pose a problem.

The groomed areas of Kurobishi, the southern route of Usagidaira, Panorama, and Skyline all had soft, loose surfaces from the start of the day and my skis slid well on the granular snow. I found that the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) was particularly easy to ski, in part because it was empty first thing in the morning as most people seemed to be heading down to the Skyline Course.

I spoke with a group of eight people from Osaka, Kyoto, Fukui, Ishikawa, Ibaraki, and Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We love your site, we plan on coming here to ski as long as there is snow! We tried to ski in formation for your camera a little bit ago, but we weren’t very coordinated.” Snow is melting fast at the end of the north side of the Panorama Course, so I had to ski closer to the Panorama Pair.

The Usagidaira Kids Park (pictured, free of charge), located on the south side of the Usagidaira Terrace, has been open on Saturdays and Sundays since 4/6 (Sat.), but will be open daily from 4/27 to 5/6. Snow striders, ZIPFYs, saucers, and plastic sleds are available for use. In other news, tomorrow, 4/21 (Sun.), is a “Ski Children’s Day” in which elementary school students can ride the lifts for free!
