GALA Yuzawa (4/21), Seki Onsen (4/21), Nekoma (4/23), Takasu (4/24), Geto Kogen (4/29), Hiuchi (4/29), and Hakkoda (4/30) have all enjoyed a long season, but have already closed, or have announced they are closing for the season – in April. (*Each resort’s closing date is listed in parenthesis above). At Happo, the officially announced snow depth is 140 cm, which is more than double the amount from the same day last year, and although the Panorama Course closed on 4/23 (Tue.), the resort is scheduled to remain open until 5/6 (Mon., holiday)!
[Kurobishi Slope]
The rain from yesterday came to an end this morning, and the four open slopes, Riesen Grat, Kurobishi, Usagidaira (pictured), and the upper portion of Urakuro, were greeted with bright blue skies. Riesen Grat is open, but has been ungroomed since 4/22 (Mon.). Starting tomorrow, 4/26 (Fri.), the Usagidaira pair will be open every day until the last day of the season, 5/6 (Mon., holiday).
[Usagidaira Slope]
My skis slid well, and I was able to make comfortable turns in the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) on the slushy, groomed granular snow surface. Over on the southern route of Usagidaira, there were patches of exposed ground on the skiers’ left side on the top half of the run, and on the skiers’ right side at the bottom half of the run. Despite being ungroomed, the surface itself was mostly flat and easy to ski.
[Kurobishi Slope]
There were moderately-sized moguls in the area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured). I spoke with a season pass holder from Matsumoto (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! I come here once a week to ski. Spring is all about the moguls.” Along the Alpen Quad, where there were more medium to large moguls covering the entire slope, there were was some exposed dirt at the bottoms of the moguls.
