Nozawa REPORT

2024.04.26110cm / Sunny

When I come to Nozawa in spring, I find myself thinking that the Yamabiko area is much bigger than I remembered! During Golden Week, the Yamabiko Quad (1,097m), Yamabiko No. 2 Quad (732m), Skyline Double, Uenotaira Quad and Gondola will be running, and the five Yamabiko runs (A through E), Uenotaira and Kokenashi A will be open for skiing. Currently, a terrain park occupies about half of the C course, and although the Skyline connecting pair has been closed, the Kokenashi Slope can also be skied if accessed from the E Course.

A skier from Niigata Prefecture (pictured) who rode with me on the Yamabiko Quad told me, “I love your site. I read Snownavi’s winter resort reports and summer trekking reports, and always look forward to the latest information.” Yamabiko A had a spot (pictured) where the ground was exposed on the skier’s left side at the end of the slope, but it didn’t pose any problem at all.

It felt chilly first thing this morning due to radiative cooling, and the cold temperatures meant that the groomed, granular snow surfaces of Yamabiko A (pictured), C, and D were well-packed. However, the slopes that were exposed to loosened up and turned to spring slush quite quickly. I spoke with a skier from Yamanashi Prefecture (pictured), who said they were a fan of Snownavi, and remarked, “Do you remember me, you took my picture taken at Kumanoyu in February? With this kind of snow, it looks like Nozawa Onsen will be able to stay open until 5/6 (Mon., holiday) as planned.”

I also crossed paths with a family from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me they follow the Snownavi instagram account. They added, “We are staying at Nozawa Onsen for 4 days starting today. The slopes are empty and conditions are good.” The temperature rose rapidly during the day. On another note, though Nozawa will be open until 5/6 (Mon., holiday), this will be the last report of the season. Thank you very much for following our reports over the winter, and see you again next season!
